Mermen

AU with i0n4 where Palmer is a merman from Croatia who was curious with the rest of the sea, and managed to travel himself from the Atlantic to the Pacific
Carson is a human living around the shores of the Puget Sound in Washington
Carson fished a lot with his dad because his dad is a fisherman and as a child, he saw a little boy in the water's where no one would really swim
But he disappeared back into the water and never came back up, so Carson thought about that for years, and returned to look around even though he started to feel like it was just a fever dream
But then one day, he see's a familiar head of blue hair and dark skin again, a man this time fondling with some dinky looking jewelry that looked like it was already corroding
And he calls out and Palmer, like the idiot he is (and why his family and friends of the sea avoids him) decided to call back and inched closer to get a good look at him 
Carson learns that Palmer is a merman
And he comes back every day to visit him, the same with Palmer
Palmer brings him nice shells and jewelry from the sea and there's a bit of a language barrier, but Palmer is still just as snarky, with a potty-mouth just as usual
This time picked up from sailors
They end up to start to fall in love, but they're from two different worlds, living two different lives
Palmer gives Carson the option of running off to sea with them so they could live happily together
And Carson takes it after awhile of thinking about it
Just disappears into the sea without a trace because he was unhappy with his life; distant with his father, mother having died in a crash, dropped out of school, working a job he isn't happy with, avoidance from people who used to be his friends
Might visit his father's boat after awhile of being gone, just to see him one last time, say his farewells 
But yea
I'm sad and I'm gay for these merman
Palmer is an east Atlantic wrasse and Carson is a redbreasted wrasse
